[New Orleans, LA—January 25, 2016] – Legendary singer-songwriter Barry Manilow hopes others will once again follow his philanthropic lead as he brings his Manilow Music Project to the INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF LOUISIANA in New Orleans. The pop icon plans to donate a Yamaha piano to launch a local music instrument drive. Anyone who donates a new or gently used musical instrument from Monday, January 25th through Friday, January 29th will receive 2 free tickets (valid for pre-selected seat locations on a first come first serve basis) to Manilow’s January 29th show.
The Manilow Music Project has conducted music instrument drives all over the country to assist local schools with their music programs.
“I’m thrilled to once again bring the gift of music to these kids,” added Manilow.
Gate “A” Ground Lobby of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, adjacent to the Smoothie King Center, will serve as the base for the instrument drive in New Orleans from January 25th through January 29th. The instrument drop off will take place between the hours of 10:00am – 4:00pm each day. Donors may park complimentary in Garage 6 of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
“In New Orleans, we know firsthand how valuable music education is,” said Melanie Tennyson, CEO/Head of School. “At the International School of Louisiana we make music a part of our curriculum and employ full time music instructors to share their love of music with all of our students starting in Kindergarten. This donation will not only be of great benefit to our students and teachers, but to our community as well,” she continued.
The Manilow Music Project (MMP) is part of The Manilow Fund for Health and Hope. It was formed as a grass roots organization to assist local charities and programs. Its primary focus is to provide musical instruments to high schools and middle schools and to provide music scholarships at universities throughout the US, Canada, and the UK.
